Using Sand in place of Vermiculite
Does anyone have experience with using sand instead of vermiculite? I want to expand my beds this year but just can't afford the vermiculite. I read in a couple other similar books that sand can be used to help keep the soil loose. I was thinking about doing one bed with sand or pulling some dirt from my beds from last year and mixing in sand then dividing it between all the beds (so all would have some sand and some vermiculite). I've seen sand

Even though I have plenty to make the ratio 1/3, I made it closer to 1/5 and it looks like plenty. Has anyone else played with the soil ratios? I had leaf compost, peat moss, a few handfuls of some Rich Earth, and mixed in some organic Miracle Grow soil

Does anyone use pool filter sand in their tanks? I have it in almost every one of my tanks and I'm removing blasting sand from one tank and wanted to replace it with the pool filter sand, but both of the places that I bought from before have gone out of
I think it is time to replace vermiculite with another ingredient that is even more rare and difficult to find. Let's go with commonsense! What type of person bases a whole system on something difficult to locate ... someone without commonsense!
