Kenyi Cichlid

I had kenyi cichlids for well over 3 months. They were very happy go lucky fish (so to speak). I had one that turned from blue to a very pale yellow. I had read that the females stay blue (unless with males, then they can turn bright yellow to blend in). And the males turned bright yellow. I had asked the pet stores if they had ever heard of a kenyi turning pale yellow. And none of them had. So, I was wondering for future information, if anyone knows why that kenyi turne
