I know they're low maintenance, but does anyone know how quickly they grow? Does it depend on nitrAtes?

I purchased a Marimo ball (tribble) from Dr. Foster and Smith and it arrived today. Its really cool and seems to have a "personality" in a weird plant like sort of way. It will actually rotate against the current to get even amounts of light.
So the petsmart closest to me got marimo balls in. I think I'm going to buy one for $8. I'd like to have a bunch in my aquariums, but I don't want to spend so much money for a bunch of balls... I read online that marimo balls out compete other species o
